Mimi Is My Grandmother Name

I can’t believe it is September already! The photo above shows how the boys play these days. Even though in the photos below they show the boys working in a regular way with the bristle blocks, everyone in our family knows that the space behind the row of blocks is a perfect place for 4.8 to go into a head stand. He cannot seem to sit regularly for any length of time. I hope it works out for him at school!

It can get very annoying for 2.5 at times! He also watches television that way.

                    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the past I have put photos 4.8 has taken himself and his favorite things around the house. Below are a few more.

The bottom two are part of a series he does when he spins in a circle. I sorta like those.

                    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have written many times in the past about 4.8 inventing machines and about all his ideas. This past week he got a new pair of goggles and instead of wearing the goggles, he used to plastic package they came in to make his own goggles. He used a lot of tape and a large rubber band. He did a great job! He said the real goggles hurt his face and his hair, but the ones he created didn’t hurt anything.

He also wanted to invent a new kind of paint brush and after a lengthy discussion, I figured out he just wanted to use something else for painting. We went down to the kitchen looking for potatoes to make as stamps and discovered the cooked spaghetti noodles instead! They worked wonderfully and the painting is actually beautiful.

And the paint “goggles” kept his face and eyes clean!

                    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4.8 also made a lego boat and used it on his bed coverlet in the sections with the fish.

And at my house he made a rescue helicopter out of a cube-shaped box, a pen, a pencil, some tape and some string, plus a bottle cap. I know I am his grandmother, but this kid is sorta like McIver. If I have to be stranded anywhere, I want to be with him and a little tape, some string, a box.....

            ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2.5 made some goggles himself out of a toy gas station and a windshield from a helicopter. These boys are always busy!

                ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2.5 has been sick off and on for the last two weeks. One day after his nap, he woke up covered in little hives all over his body. He and I made a mad dash to the doctor’s office because of course it was after 4 p.m. and we had to fight traffic. But Mimi put on her bat-cape and got everyone there in record time and all in one piece. It seems it could have been the left-over virus finishing out its hold on our baby or it could have been a peanut allergy. He has had peanut butter before so we are leaning toward the virus. Oh well, it didn’t last for very much longer and he felt fine the next day. Poor baby. The expression in the photo below came in response to me asking him how he felt. I think it was meant to say “sorta ok, sorta not.”

School starts on the 10th for us and I will miss our summertime of free-time and lots of sleepovers at Mimi’s...

Making magic for our grandchildren is a perfectly good profession. I clear the decks when my grandchildren arrive. My son complained that his son's toddler feet never hit the floor at our house."Why would they?" I replied. "I love carrying him." I still carry him to bed at almost 7 and he, enjoying the rare game, nuzzles into my neck and relaxes on the way to bed.

Aren't we lucky?

Love the story about your grandmother name. A friend once told me she was Nana because her grandson pointed at her one day and clearly said, "Nana! Nana!" so she adopted the name. She later found out he was pointing to and asking for the bananas behind her, but the name stuck. Also, love how inventive your creative grandsons are. Definitely desert-island qualified:)

Best, Carol Covin
